Arbeloa on his bike?
C&H

Another Hammer to make January exit

Alvaro Arbeloa has joined the growing list of Irons palyers heading for the exit door this January.

Slaven Bilic has decided the 33 year old former Real Madrid defender is no longer part of his plans and he will be allowed to leave.

Arbeloa has joined joined Gokhan Tore and Simone Zaza on the surplus to requirements list after making just one EFL and two Premier League appearances.

He appeared against Accrington Stanley and received yellow cards in his two Premier League outings against Southapton and Middlesborough.

Arbeola was signed on deadline day as the club's need for a right back became urgent but the manager has decided that he will be looking elsewhere in January.

A club insider confrmed the details to us this morning saying: "It's true that Arbeola would be allowed to move on if a club comes for him".

Meanwhile, the club are continuing to explore the options with Tore and Zaza and both are likely to be leaving in the window as reported.

Browne had the break away who really should of taken it onhimself and scored,A bit of nerves and not the ultimate confidence to what seemed like a perfect opportunity to make a name for himself .

Trev,

could have been; I was watching on a stream that wasn't brilliant. Either way, the bloke that dragged back (Fletcher?) should have been off. Game over.

Back to the OS, where we cruise to a 3-0 aggregate win. For them to have got out of the first leg 1-1 was robbery.

Harsh on Antonio, that ball was too far ahead of him to get any real purchase on the ball and direct it to goal.

and with Obiang as back up, regarding the DM role.

Re: Arbeloa on his bike?
I must have imagined that we spent most of the summer pursuing Bacca, Lacazette and Batshuayi then.....Nordveit , Ayew and Feghouli seemed decent bits of business (current internationals) Edmilson and Fletcher two for the future, Arbeloa a one season wonder, and Tore someone the manager had been after for several windows.

Going out of Europe became fact based on 3 events. Antonio missed an open goal from 2 yards, after running the length of the pitch, the bloke that held back (Fletcher) should have been a second yellow, and then Tore not chasing back against Astra in the second leg. We should have been out of sight before the second leg.

The players clearly weren't fit enough, Cresswell, Aye, Feghouli, Arthur and Carroll got injured, Sackho remained injured, and so it went on. It's a miracle none of the CBs got injured.

Plenty of excuses there, but a lot of that is reasonable, fitness being the exception.

Not sure why you're only blaming the owners here. Pretty clear that Bilic had decided we didn't need a new right back as he thought Antonio should be first choice with Byram as back up.

As for the striker we did break our transfer record to get Ayew, who Bilic wanted as he could also play other positions. Whether that pays off remains to be seen given how little football he's played so far.

As you say the other signings were more about quantity than quality, but realistically it was only the right back and striker roles that needed players for the first choice 11. Personally I think we could have done with a real quality defensive midfielder but I think Bilic saw Kouyate and Noble as his first choice there anyway.

Are people still moaning about the owners and lack of investment rather than the players performance, poor fitness and abject management?

Re: Arbeloa on his bike?
Yes however my original point was that we mostly sgned a load of shit, and that we all knew for many months if not years that we we needed to sign fullbacks and a goalscorer. So what do we do? Sign wingers and midfielders and flog off Tomkins who is better than Collins & can play RB. We only signed Matsuaku fairly late on too because Cresswell got injured.
Then we wait until the last minute to sign the players we really needed for ages a RB and a goalscorer.
Both on loan, 2 months later we wan't to offload them.

Zazza was never prolific and has never played in the Prem or up front on his own, so we play him up top on his own and guess what?
Arbeloa is 33 and was on a free, is it any great shock that he hasn't worked out too? Saying that he wasn't even given a chance.

So not only did we fail once again to address problems we've known about for what seems like years now, we also purchased other players who we didn't need and are totally unsuitable and shock horror, shit.

A really poor window because imho the owners were so fixated on the move that they arrogantly thought we would walk into the Europa league stages and only neede to add numbers not real quality. This despite saying they wanted CL football etc...
With moving to the OS after finishing 7th they really should have added real quality to the first team and properly pushed us on but they didn't sign one player imho which made that sort of statement.
We tried to stand still mostly with loans and freebies whilst others moved on and now we are paying the price.
I've said all along that the G&S and Brady do not have the nous, ambition or money to ever move us to where they claim we are going and that the decent thing to do would be to sell us to someone who has!

Re: Arbeloa on his bike?
Not sure what relevance your question has to my post? I was replying to a particular post of yours hence the C&P, and mostly to this part "3 loan signings who we want to offload after a few months.". My point being that clearly the owners were not 100% about these signings, hence why they were loaned and not bought, and the fact that they haven't worked out has proven them right in their decision to loan not buy.

Re: Arbeloa on his bike?
So the reason we waited until the last minute to sign the players who play in the positions we have desperately needed to bolster for ages is because they were loans?

Or maybe that's why we loaned the players, rather than bought them?

Re: Arbeloa on his bike?
A confident player makes for a good player, but if we play him in a role where he's been shown wanting on numerous occasions then that confidence diminishes rapidly which is bad and we could see that!
Bilic obviously now finally agrees he's not a defender hence the last minute acquisition of Arbeloa, the player has said himself that he's not a RB!
He doesn't think like a defender and in turn gets caught out of position or tries to dribble the ball out of the box! & the opposition make runs in and about him that he doesn't track at times which again we've seen happen!!
We should leave this now and let him concentrate on what he is good at!!
